Maybe she’s right.

For almost three decades I have run exclusively in Brooks. Right now my model of choice is the Bedlam but I have a few pairs of Adrenaline hanging around too.

My MS causes my gait so be a little off. The Bedlam is a good fit and gives me the support and the GuideRails I need to keep things right with my legs. I rotate pairs every run which keeps them from wearing down too quickly. I have five pairs of Bedlam (bought on sale) and one of the Bedlam 2. The Bedlam 3 is out now so I bet I can get a good buy on the Bedlam 2.

Running in this many shoes and the rotation I do, works for me.

Get to vs have to

What a difference changing one word makes.

I get to hop on my bike and go for a ride. I get to put on my running shoes and go for a run. I get to swim lap after lap in the local pool. It is something I have the choice to do and I get to do these things and a lot more.

There are a lot of people just in the multiple sclerosis community, not to mention everyone else, who would love to have the choice to get to do all that I do. For many they can’t.

I sometimes don’t realize how fortunate I am to get to do what I do. When my mind starts slipping in to the “have to” mindset, I need to remember it is my choice. I don’t have to, I get to!

Because I have to stay active and to do that I have to set goals. As I get older, it is too easy to “not get out the door”.

My first Ironman was Louisville 2011. I’ll be 70 in 2030 and it makes sense to go back to Louisville to do an Ironman. It is a great venue and an even better finish line party. Setting a big goal like that will keep me going if I train for and do at least a 70.3 every year. I will throw in a few full Ironman along the way.

So, I’ve set the goal and I’m starting with Tulsa 2021.
